3 guys on Surlys doing a 140-mile camping trip

We took off Sat morning on our Surlys ( 2CCs and 1 LHT), and headed for Chain O'Lakes State Park in Indiana. It was a nice 70 mile ride, except for the last 7 (all hills and very low on water). We camped and had a great time. The ride back was fantastic. Our bikes were great and we didn't forget anything. Pulling a trailer for 140 miles in 36-hours was pretty tough. I noticed it on the hills and some drag on the flats. Panniers might have been a little easier. But it was nice to have things easily accessible and organized. I think for a couple of days the trailer was good. If I were going for much longer, I'd likely use panniers.

A self-portait on the way home.

It's been a great ride. Camping last night was awesome and we're on our way home. About 40 miles to go and I'm still smiling.

LHTs handle dirt just fine.

While pulling a trailer on dirt roads isn't fun, it's doable. We did
about 3 miles on dirt roads and it was fine.

About 30 miles into the ride

So far we've had a great ride. We've enjoyed a gentle tail wind and moderate temps. We stopped for breakfsat at about 27 miles and have just pulled off to Walgreens for a couple of last minute items.

We're about to start

It's about 8 a.m. And we're about to start our trip. It looks like the weather will be pretty good.

The LHT is loaded and ready. Just waiting for everyone to get here so we can get on rhe road.

The night before my 1st S24O on my LHT

Well, I'm all packed and ready for my 1st Sub-24-Overnight. We've had a ton of rain the last couple of days, but it looks like tomorrow will be a good start for a nice weekend and a nice ride. Bruce, Henry, and I are heading to Chain O'Lakes State Park where we'll camp for the night then head home on Sunday. It should end up being about a 125 mile ride round trip.
I've decided to pull my Burley Nomad rather than use panniers. I haven't gotten a chance to take this trailer anywhere, so this is a good opportunity. I'm also going to try my my Mountain Hard Wear Ghisallo 1 for the first time as well. This is a pretty cool tent for bike touring, it has a "garage" for my bike under the rainfly. I'll post some reviews of these after I get a chance. I'll also post some some notes and photos as we travel.
